1928
On September 12, Banrisul begins to operate at offices in the State Treasury building, in Porto Alegre.
With starting capital of 50,000 contos de réis, starts its activities with two two portfolios: mortgage and economic.
1930
22 new branches are inaugurated, increasing Banrisul’s capillarity. Besides, Banrisul also incorporated the bankrupted Banco Popular.
1931
BRGS incorporated the ancient and traditional Banco Pelotense, liquidating its assets.
In September, Banrisul’s shares were listed on the stock market.
1938
Consolidated and with close relations with the community
A plot of land is purchased in in the south zone of Porto Alegre for the construction of the Banrisul Casino.
1941
Helping to restructure the regions hit by the Guaíba Lake floods, Banrisul became the financial intermediary responsible for intermediate resources sent by the Federal Government.
The Institution inaugurates its first headquartes, on Sete de Setembro street, in the Capital.
1943
Banrisul welcomes the first women in its workforce.
1950
Banrisul reaches 90 branches in Rio Grande do Sul state.
Inaugurated the first urban branch in Porto Alegre, located in São João district, in the North zone.
1957
Construction of its headquarter building, through Real Estate Fund.
1960
After president Juscelino Kubitschek decree, the Institution becomes to be named Banco do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul S/A (BERGS).
1964
Banrisul inaugurates its current headquarters, on Capitão Montanha street, Downtown area in Porto Alegre. The building is until these days one of the most imposing structures in the region.
1968
The Banco Nacional de Habitação – BNH (The National Home Loan Bank) authorizes BERGS to operate as a financing agent in Rio Grande do Sul state, through its real estate portfolio.
1970
A series of technologies were implemented at Banrisul.
1971
The Bank stops using the name “BERGS” and begins to be named Banrisul. The logo is modified and remains this way until today.
1983
Computers made available for clients to access their currents accounts balance and phone-based balance-related information services.
1988
Banrimicro is created, for checking accounts, FGTS, stocks and letter portfolios.
1989
Expansion of terminal network, telex central access and electronic implementation of checkbooks.
1990
Operating as multiple bank and implementing Savings Accounts.
1993
The first fully automated self-service station is inaugurated.
1995
Implementation of the program “Banrisul Rescuing the Nature”.
2003
Banrisul enters in another economic segment: consortiums for the purchase of tractors, vehicles and houses.
2005
Launching of Banrisul Internet Card, with smart chip.
2007
It is concluded the capitalization process and the secondary issuance of preferred shares owned by the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The operation was the greater bank IPO in Latin America.
Banrisul Celular is launched.
2010
Banrisul is recognized as one of the 100 most value brands in Brazil and one of the 2,000 biggest company in the world.
2014
Launching of its new multibrand acquirer company, Vero.
2015
Rio Grande Seguros e Previdencia was founded, controlled by Banrisul Icatu Participações Ltda. holding company.
2017
Banrisul Digital app was launched.
2019
Launch of the advertising campaign “O Agro é Nosso Chão”, focused on expanding Banrisul’s presence in the sector.
2020
Launch of Banritech, Banrisul’s startup acceleration program.
2021
Banrisul hosts its first Investor Day
2022
Launch of our new brand and concept: “Our connection transforms”.

Banrisul voted 6th best bank by Forbes.
